Re: Question about Bolger Skimmer (Instant Boats)

That bottom cross-piece is just a length of 2X4 with a 14 degree bevel cut along the bottom edge to match the outward angle on the transom.

On mine the outside edges have been rounded over and a couple layers of 6" wide 10 oz tape installed for additional strength.

Any project for a POWER boat implies financial wherewithall in vast excess of the cost for a set of plans.

The plans are only $30 a small percentage of boat and engine, if you
can't afford those you are going to have trouble with the cost of
building the boat.

I don't know if that would be any clearer to you with the full sized plans. Though the full scale drawings are always helpful, for a guy with a couple sheets of plywood and an old motor laying around it's certainly legitimate to build from the book if your eyesight is good enough.

The piece you're looking atisthe the bottom framing piece of the transom. Without it, there'd be nowhere to nail the bottom all the way across. It is shown in the plan view. Remember the transom is at an angle.

The boat's plan and profile views are aligned exactly. Run your straight edge down from the framing piece shown in the side view to the plan view. Just to the right of the transom top are a pair of lines adjacent to the motor board. That's the part.

It's tricky because both the transom's bottom and top edges can't be shown in plan view without obscuring the other detail.
