Re: BWAOM Seabird 86
Hi Nels,
Jon
> It is the only design of his that I am aware of that has a deck mounted tabernacle on an un-stayed mast. I wonder is this only possible with a dipping lug sail plan?I believe the Offshore Leeboarder in BWAOM has one as well, but with a gaff main.

This is one of my favorite essays for a basic understanding of sailing craft as well as Bolger's comments on them in general and why some things work better than others. Like the salient keel on this design, how useful an outboard and porta-potti are, how to arrange a very compact galley and on and on.
It is the only design of his that I am aware of that has a deck mounted tabernacle on an un-stayed mast. I wonder is this only possible with a dipping lug sail plan?
Seems a number of folks are interested in tabernacles in several forums I visit. Especially those who have challenges in stepping a mast.
Any thoughts on this?
