Re: Catfish beach cruiser

Don't know about Beach Cat ergonomics but here is a photo of four adults comfortably seated in my Oldshoe. Comfortable as an old shoe --- by design. Note that they are sitting straight up, feet on the floor with full back support. Ample stowage in a large compartment forward.

If you look at the study plans Payson sells, to me they look like the original one with wide side decks that are too low to sit under but too high to rest your back against, and so wide that that your weight isn't far enough outboard. I love the basic design of the boat, just don't get the ergonomics at all--and I know there have been discussions, but having read them, I don't know if there was ever a solution

Hello there,
that's why I nagged Phil into us modifying the plans to achieve a more 'normal' cockpit layout.
Seating and stowage are more aking to OLDSHOE plus the centerboard case of course.
This added three 17"x22" sheets.  To help pay for these additions the complete set of #589 BEACH CAT plans now go for $150.- to build one boat, sent rolled in a tube.

I'm a little confused by the Catfish design--there are threads about the modifications to the design concerning the height and width of the side decks. If you look at the study plans Payson sells, to me they look like the original one with wide side decks that are too low to sit under but too high to rest your back against, and so wide that that your weight isn't far enough outboard.
