Seabird'86 news

Hi,

after one year of non boatbuilding, I had some weeks this summer to do
some jobs on my Seabird. It's realy a plesure to build and I hope it's
also a plesure to sail it next summer.
I've scanned some pictures and loaded up to my homepage.

Once the transom is support by the hull sides, bottom and deck, it
will should be quite rigid. SeaBird is a sort of "semi-monocoque"
structure with a strong shell, rather than a true framed structure
where the strength comes from frames and the planking only keeps the
water out.

The design has always been a favorite of mine. I just wish she was a
little wider to be more of a 100% sailer and less of a motorsailer.

Hi Warren,

thanks for the flowers. I suppose your question refers to a photo in the "going around
the boat" area. In this photo you can see two cockpit clamps laying on the bulkheads.
I've forgotten to take them away before making the photo.
The other wooden stringers laying length wise on the top of the bulkheads are the deck
stringers.
After pre- installing the bulkheads, I've fixed the deck stringers on the top of the
bulkheads and aligned the bulkheads, glued them to the bottom and after curing I was
able to install the deck stringers finally, paired port and starboard.
Working this way the whole assembly was controllable and looks fair I think.
Installing the bulkheads was not a bigger problem.

To all,
I'm really concerned about the stability of the transom and after bulkheads,
they are delicate. This moment I intend to assemble the cockpit box, the motor mount
and the traveler with the whole transom area. Until my next building period (I hope
two weeks in October) I will think about all this and also I hope "the solution" will
come.
Any suggestions or ideas in the group, I would really appreciate.

Regards
Stefan
