Thanks. It was great for me too to see the boat out in the open,
(after years of being in the shop, and not being able to step back for
an overall look-see).
This is totally impressive and wouldn't it be terrific if a Bruce Hallman lived on each of our streets. Your energy and commitment to boats and all things Bolger is inspiring, entertaining and a worthwhile contribution to a weary world. Yours in boating Paul
Topaz does evoke that design era. With the modern advantages of the Honda outboard leaving more room for several more to enjoy the fun.

Beautiful boat and build. Great to see the whole boat.

Wow, Bruce! Great pictures, great looking boat. Congratulations!
Looking forward to the launch pictures...

Long, long ago,  My next door neighbor built a long narrow mahogany speed boat.  She had two upholstered seats forward behind a windscreen and two seats aft behind a second windscreen.  A beautiful thing!  Lightly but closely framed as she was, with only half inch thick carvel planking she could drive through a steep Chesapeake bay chop and never leak a drop, owing partly to her narrowness I guess she worked very little.   Setting amidships was an in line 6 cylinder Chrysler engine under twin opening hatches. I think her top speed was about 25 miles per hour as she did not plane.  Maybe a partial plane?  Your Topaz remands me some of her. I had a warm feeling as soon as I looked at the pictures of your boat.
Otts Mc Clelland a railroad engineer and fine woodworking craftsmen built her secretly as a wedding aniversary present for his wife's sister and husband. How would You like to have a brother in-law like him?
Bruce you have done a nice jog and she can't help but be a pleasure to you.          Doug

Thanks Rick. In his last letter written to me Phil Bolger did say
that he was happy about my Topaz build. I already have the rolling
door on order to fill up the hole in the back wall of my shop. It
will be useful to be able to open both the front and the back of the
shop with rolling doors.

Subject:[bolger] Moving a Topaz Spyder

Those of you that know me are aware that I have been building a 31
foot runabout for several years now.  I chose to set this boat
building project aside a year ago, (as 'real life' intervened), and I
have been spending most of my spare waking hours this last year on a
humongous 100 year old inner city house remodel project.

In any case, my Topaz Spyder project is actually almost ready for
launch, with an indeterminate amount of electrical and fuel system
work being all there is left to do.  Regardless, it made sense for me
to relocate the Topaz Spyder from my suburban home to a storage yard
closer in location my city home where I spend most of my time.

The Topaz Spyder is a relatively recent Phil Bolger design, belonging
to the Bolger series of low power shallow draft designs including the
"Advanced Fisherman class", intended for fuel efficient power boating
in an era of $5/gallon fuel.

I did the move this last weekend, and for those interested, here are
some photos:
