Pointy Skiff Launched Today!
Hi,
I finally got my Pointy Skiff in the water. It was a typical 95
degree afternoon here in Florida and the water was as flat as anyone
could ask for. She floated and tracked pretty good. Boy was I
surprise at how light she seemed in the water. Hardly took any muscle
to row her. I used the oars I made from plans at Michalek's web site.
They worked great. Stayed out for about 2 hours, rowing straight and
spinning her around like a top. I forgot how much fun it is to row.
To get the boat to the water I made a "T" craddle that slips over a
post on my trailer hitch (got the hitch, but no trailer yet). I
flipped the boat over and lifted the transom into the craddle. Then I
picked up the bow and walked it around as the transom pivoted on
the "T" and just placed her right on top of the Mustang's roof racks.
One man can do it with a minimum of sweat.
Next, I'll try her out under power with my 3HP and trolling motor.
Can't wait for that one.
Thanks to all here for your inspiration and help!
