Re: Old Shoe questions

There are several Old Shoe albums in the photos section.

I meant to say also that plans are available from P.B. & F. directly, with all the accumulated years of builders' feedback and updates, or from no-one else.
Michael,

I believe there may be two relevant articles.

The first from a long while ago, and I don't believe I've actually read it myself: Oldshoe 12' x 5'4" Cat Yawl - BOD, MAIB Vol 3, No 6, page 16 (see this thread re "MAIB index of Bolger articles"http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bolger/messages/59281?threaded=1&m=e&var=1&tidx=1)

The second, more recent (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BolgerCartoons/files/Oldshoe%20Sailboat/likely V23 N11, Old Shoe, per Bruce' MAIB index
) extrapolates on some Oldshoe associated themes such as "The design is an obvious candidate for a Birdwatcher top, perhaps a removeable one to use in appropriate weather. That would make one heavy-weather capable indeed, they're stiff as designed, with the 200lb of outside ballast giving a reassuring range of stability."http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bolger/message/49720

Bernie Wolfard's CSD pitch for Old Shoe plan sales in his usual inimitable attractive upbeat style was, of course, based in part on info from PB&F ;-)

I know plans are available from PB&F.

The only "official" writeup on Oldshoe I have found is a note from PCB to a builder which at some stage was posted in the attachments/photos section of one of these yahoo groups (didn't find it just now though).

The other descriptive article was written by Elrow LaRowe when the designs were launched.

I bought my plans from CSD (then unaware of the royalties issue).

I have on occasion corresponded with Suzanne by e-mail with pretty prompt response.

All the best,

David

I suspect plans would be available from Susanne..no idea how much.

Thanks for your response. I enjoyed your building photos. They are inspiring. I found an old article on OldShoe written by Phil himself , published in Messing About in Boats, posted in the file section of the Bolger Cartoons Yahoo group. If you are interested, see the link below.

Hi Michael,

I don't think Phil ever wrote an article about Oldshoe. I'm not even sure he ever saw a finished one. I bought plans many years ago from common Sense Designs...but I gather they may not be living up to their royalty obligations as of late. I suspect plans would be available from Susanne..no idea how much.

Best!

I've enjoyed the recent posts about Bolger's Old Shoe. Can anyone direct me to where Phil wrote up an article on that boat? Are plans available from P.B. & F. directly, or from someone else?
