Makes sense to me.
On the one hand, I admire your energy and courage in cutting apart
your partly build boat. On the other hand, I agree that the revised
version looks like the better boat.

Hi Peter -
The plans call for a reinforcing buttstrap so I figured I might as
well cut all the way down to there and then use a full sheet of ply.
Had I not done so, the I would have had to have 2 horizontal butts -
one where shown to support the leeboard support rails, and one higher
up to support the joining of the ply... it just seemed easier to cut
down to the point that I did. Besides, it made measuring the window
cuttings much easier - measuring from a full sheet lying horizontally.
Hope that helps!

Mike,
My copy of the MAIB issue describing the MJ mods (June 15) got lost
in the mail and only a week or so ago did I get the replacement copy.
I was looking at the pictures of your 'deconstruction', and I think I
don't understand why you had do 'deconstruct' so much of the side.
You seem to have cut to within a foot of the chine and it's not clear
from the article how the modifications affect that area.
The MJ with the glass house will be a grand vessel. Keep up the good
work.
