Breathe on one side doesn't make any sense to me, at least with plywood.
There are waterproof layers of glue between the wood layers.

George Buehler suggests roofing sealant between plywood layers, something like
Blackjack IIRC.
Schools of thought are divided between the "seal it all thoroughly,Inside

Ive wasted a boatload of money on budget workarounds that weren't!
