Clearly the "pointy stern" on an Egret is also designed to lift a little while stern-on to waves, rather than presenting a flat transom or a low round sharpie transom that would possibly take on water.
The original Egret stern, from pix, actually looks kinda ugly. But it did the job.
An open boat which ran inlets on the Eastern Shore of Va and Md are those Chapelle calls the "Sinepuxent Skiff" -- known to residents as the "seaside bateau."
Fairly sharp v section at the stern and a small but tallish transom.
