Re: [bolger] doubling ply bottoms/Tony
Steve,
I live on the Central Coast of NSW about an hour north of Sydney ,
Australia.
I have about 50% of a Martha Jane....ie still building
So far I've - glassed and turned the hull after copper/epoxy antifoul and
cutting the rudder hole
- mostly constructed the rudder assembly
-rough faired leeboards and poured lead
-laminated mast and spars
-built a trailer
-pre finished and temporarily fitted all the ply panels for
cockpit, ballast tanks ,cabin etc
I was about to permanently attach everything when I heard about the updated
plans -what good timing.
So thanks to this GROUP I have Phil Bolgers address and have written off for
the updated plans.
I intend to add the sponsons, windowed house ,new leeboards and ballast.
Also I am wanting to build a "tent" to cover the cockpit area for sun/rain
protection - any ideas???????
Do you know of anyone who has added the extra ballast - the idea of
attaching a huge steel plate and then fairing /glassing upside down against
gravity seems rather difficult.
One solution may be to pour lead directly into the ballast tanks to make up
the extra weight- this way I am only raising the centre of whatever by an
inch or two. Just guessing at the moment better wait until I get the revised
plans.
Regards,
Tony
