Re: Philip C. Bolger used books
The best place I know of to search for old Bolger books is
www.bookfinder.com. It aggregates searches on numerous book sites,
including ABE, Bibliofind, Amazon, Powell's, and about a dozen others
-- then ranks the results by price. It's a really great resource. I
just got "30-Odd Boats" for $14.95 from Powell's, via Bookfinder.com.
(30-Odd Boats is amazing in the number of complete buildable designs
it contains -- and most of them boats I'd never heard of -- Sparkler,
Burgundy, etc. I'd like to know if these were proven to be less
than ideal designs, and that's why they don't seem to be built as
often -- or is it just that 30-Odd has been out of print? I'll try,
in some future post, to list the boats it contains, along with the 1-
line description from the back of the book, and give an indication of
whether there are buildable plans included. Ditto for BWAOM -- though
at least that's still in print and available.)
I'm tempted, in my publisher incarnation, to ask PCB if he'd license
publishing rights to "30-Odd Boats" and any of his other out-of-print
books to my company, and we could digitize them and make them
available via print-on-demand. I don't know if it would be very
profitable, but so long as we didn't lose our shirts, I'd consider it
the highest sort of public service.
All best,
Garth
