Re: Progress! Congratulations!save the sawdust

save the sawdust, it makes a great filler! somewhere between light
fairing compound and high strength filler. I dropped some on my
driveway in October, and it is still in a clump after a New England
Summer and Winter.

David - thanks for the feedback!
Of course I've read every single message on the double bottom issue.
My idea is to predrill the top layer and using every other hole to
screw, in order to allow the air to escape. This might also somehow
allow for automating filling of 50% of the holes: I plan to fill the
others with a siringe. Now I go downstairs to cut the bevels on the
transom and to remove the ton or sawdust that I've produced in the
last three days. Getting ready to butt join the hull sides...
Best, Pippo

P.S.: the page on drumming is in the thinking phase still...

This is why some of us put up with the extra complication of vacuum
bagging, tho I admit I haven't done it on my own boat projects yet
(and haven't needed it). I've occasionally used it to glue this and
that thing, tho. Any time my clamps won't do, I think of it.
Pippo,
I can't wait for the page on drumming!

I hope you have been following the discussion on Double Bottoms as I
found this to be a very tedious process. I strongly recommend going
for a single 1/2" bottom and getting your wife to hold the backing
maul while you clinch or vice versa. If you do the double bottom,
follow Chuck L's advice and predrill the top layer, I had quite a
few
spin outs and cannot guarantee no air gaps in the layers.

I glassed the bottom and am in the middle of installing the keel
batten and the reinforcing strips. I like the extra thickness piece
of mind when one drops the marine battery on the floor. these steps
are quite easy and doable by oneself.

Ciao,
David Jost "first day of school year 2000-2001 tomorrow"
Dear all - I've just completed the last bulkhead (the transom,
actually) for my Micro - to be honest I still have to cut the bevels,
but that is easy peasy... So, as David Jost said, ready to go 3-d!
I've also updated my web page:http://space.tin.it/io/jfwbi/.
Hower, gotta go back to the beach tomorrow... Best, Pippo
