Re: Progress! Congratulations!
I have not built the trailer yet, but have access to a number of old
trailers, options that I am exploring are:
1. leave the boat on the cradle, and then adapt an autohauler or
snowmobile trailer.
2. salvaging the back of an old pickup truck and building a trailer
per Bernie W's plans around the axle and wheels.
I am fortunate to live in suburban Boston which has a great
number of automobile junk yards.
After towing boats for 30 years I have learned that the bigger
tires trail better.
As for glassing the bottom first. I am working outdoors under tarps
and felt it was necessary to get some protection on the bottom. It
is
also much easier to work down, than up. By glassing the bottom first
(epoxy and 6 oz cloth) I was able to get a fair surface with little
trimming and fitting of the cloth. The keel batten is bolted,
screwed
and glued to this. I have prepped the surface with the disc grinder
prior to the application of the glue.
Then, when all is set I will apply a smooth coat of epoxy to
all
bottom surfaces and make sure that everything is faired prior to
turning the hull upright. I am trying to reduce under hull work
later.

Congratulations, Pippo; congratulations, David... I think you both are
working in some of the most exiting Micro-building-steps!
David, you wrote that you glassed your bottom and are now installing the
keel battern... I was thinking in doing it in the opposite order: install
the batten-keel, and glass the hole thing. I'm just ignorant: Wich are the
pros and contras of each option?
Furthermore, I'm looking for a trailer like yours, I mean a trailer
proceding from a old... caravan? The problem is that I'm planing to pull my
Micro with a small car (no ramps, just highway), so the trailer weight is
going to be critical. Do you know approximately the weight of yours?
Best wishes.
