[bolger] a tasteful trim paint plan > Is Susanne Altenburger still selling plans?

Harry,
You also did a nice job of simple-elegant trim paint on the boat - this makes a huge difference in how simple boats look.

Once I went through all the pictures for every boat shown here:
 www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/jim/michalak.htm

Michalak is also focused on simple inexpensive functionality. My first impression was some of the boats were pretty clunky looking and others looked elegantly simple.

Then I realized that tasteful trim paint made a huge difference in the impression. That's when I went through and carefully looked at each picture, to see if it was my imagination or not. That's when I verified that a tasteful paint plan makes all the difference in the world for simple boats.

If you paint some of the more pragmatic Bolger or Michalak boats in a single color of surplus utility paint, then they will look like a very ugly duckling.

If you take the same boat design, paint it in a cheerful color, and do a tasteful job of painting trim, then it will look like a different boat, with a hugely better impression.

Then if you add a tasteful two-tone painting plan to a tasteful trim paint plan, even the blocky boats start looking a bit snazzy.

When you are trying to convince a person, who values style and impressions, that Bolger designs are great, the worst mistake you can make is show them pictures of boats that look like they were dipped in a vat of surplus utility paint.

Several of the better looking Michalak boats had paint plans similar to the one Harry used in the pictures he attached to his email below. You could do a lot worse than copying the paint plan that Harry used. If you want different colors, then you could print out the picture of Harry's boat, and go to a paint store for advice on 3 different colors to do that paint plan with.

If you don't feel up to designing a tasteful paint plan, then just go through the list of Michalak designs, looking for pictures of boats with a paint job you like.

Then show the person, with a need for stylish boats, that picture as an example of the paint plan you are thinking of, and the drawings of Bolger design you are proposing. A big advantage of finding a stylish simple paint plan that you like, is it won't be hard to duplicate on a different boat.

May your day be filled with clarity, grace, strength, insight, balance, cooperation, listening, keeping faith, and warm laughter,
Roger
