Re: Bolger 32ft Catamaran. What's this?

Mike O'Brien, editor of BDQ and former editor of WoodenBoat Magazine, built the first Bolger Black Skimmer - he's a Bolger fan, and fascinating to talk to. BDQ is fascinating at well.

BTW, I live a short drive from where the original Black Skimmer was last seen, abandoned, by the side of a road, some years ago. I spent a whole afternoon driving around looking for her a few months ago, sadly to no avail.

Nice list, Bruce - thanks for posting it.

Here are my notes, imperfect for sure, of which Bolger designs were published in Boat Design Quarterly, and elsewhere...or not.

Thanks for that (...and as was usual also for the great input there from Don in NZ). I was under the misapprehension that AC had been built by Colin.

I looked for an index, but could not find one. However, by clicking on each issue at

http://www.woodenboatstore.com/category/boat_design_quaterly/a

you can see an index for that issue.

There was a brief discussion of theAuckland Cata few years ago.

Yes, the Auckland Catamaran featured in the magazine article in Boat Design Quarterly #6 is also the boat featured in Chapter 33 of the Bolger book 'Boats with an open mind'.

Thanks Bob, I thought it might be. The date of publication, 1994, so nearly coinciding with BWAOM sort of belled the cat (sorry).

I recall reading somewhere a quote of PCB's effectively recommending/endorsing BDQ. Is an index available to check re mention in BDQ of other Bolger boats or articles? Perhaps it could be posted in Files here? The Maritime Museum seems to be patchy in its archives to do with the work of designers that people here may be interested in. There are some good scores there though when searching their handy catalogue - it'd be great if their collection were comprehensive.

Yes, it is the Auckland Cat, designed for Colin Frankham, to utilize the rig from an Auckland 18.

Mike O'Brien has featured a number of PCB designs over the course of Boat Design Quarterly's history.
Mike is the fellow for whom Black Skimmer was designed and the builder of the original.
