Hello, had long been a lurker and this is my first post here.

I have been looking for a small cruiser that can be build in steel or aluminum, in sails there is Col Hasler, I wondered if Bolger ever design any small motor cruisers in steel?

Can fishing boat designs like Abbondanza be converted into a cruiser?

How may plans be obtained?

Regards

I designed a tiller tender that works great to hold the tiller where
you want. Quick to change and lock in place. Can be builtr 5 bucks or
less. It does not steer the boat but holds the tiller. Blessings Chief

A Col Hasler to go places far off...

Andy, have you this:Self-Steering for Sailing Craftby John Letcher?

It may be read here:

Self-steering for Sailing Craft

Well, Ed, a few seasons later, things are not fully balanced out but close enough to discuss plans.
Plans for Design # 581 BEE are listed at $35.-
Plans for Design # 496 BIRDWATCHER in a combined package of both versions are $200.-
All quotes in US$, to build one boat, plus postage to Australia of about $15 per plans-tube.
Turn-around these days should be no more than two weeks.

International Money-Order or a Bank-Draft made out to Phil Bolger & Friends Inc. will work.

Yours

Hi Guys
I have sent several emails to Phil, and after Phil died, to Susanne. Never a single reply. So I gave up and built a couple of Jim's boats. But I still love Phil's boats. Got all the books. So, Susanne, are you in a position to reply now? Can we talk about how I get Birdwatcher 2 and Bee plans? I'm in Australia, but I don't see how that makes a difference.
Cheers
Ed

I have built a scale model Col. HG Hassler, and I really doubt that anyone has built a full sized version.

Had a prompt reply and a productive discussion with Susanne. We don't quite see eye to eye over steel vs wood but since the boat was designed for steel that's fine by me.Need to sort out the money for the plans now but should hopefully do that shortly and can then get on with model building.Bolger digests seem to be coming through ok now

Good morning Andy.
Plans remain available from PB&F.
None have been built.
Plans are quite detailed across seven 22” x 34” sheets.
I would be tempted to build her in plywood versus steel for a somewhat less ‘Tank-like’ structure but better thermal performance as a multi-season cruiser/minimal liveaboard ‘pod’ for starters.
Talk to me atphilbolger@...
