Phil Bolger 'Hope' design # 258

Back in 2003, I built two vesions of Phil's design # 258, 'Hope'. Both were specified to be built strip-planked as open, working lobster boats. My customers wanted small cuddies, cockpits, and glued-lapstrake construction. I wrote to Phil and Suzanne, and I was kindly granted permission to draw and calculate the alterations - one boat a diesel inboard and the other a 15hp four-stroke outboard edition.

Both boats were very successful, and I'm delighted to say the the first boat (the diesel inboard) has come back into my possession. She will stay in our family long-term, I hope.

Considerable serious work was required on the engine (Yanmar 1GM10), which was badly rust-seized due to an unnoticed saltwater intrusion into, the cylinder six years ago, but I've got it running sweetly now. She has also received a beautiful new 12" x 8" Austral propeller.

Here is a short clip of a test run on Sunday. Bolger Hope Diesel Launch
