Re: [bolger] LIGHT SCHOONER-Mk.2

here are a few pics you may enjoy. Homebuilt trailer (by me, was an old camper) works great. Takes me under an hour to make it ready to sail. I started with a damaged bare hull originally built in the late 70s. Everything else built by myself including the blocks and sails which are 8 oz canvas. Built for fun not racing. My first attempt at doing a boat. Canvas bags hold first aid kit, 2 70 pound sandbags, fishing poles or emergency buoy,  personal effects and the largest bag is for the staysail ready to hook up. Not too bad considering a total investment under $500.00, by doing all the labor myself(retirement has its good points) and using  reclaimed lumber. proof that Bolger designs are flexible. Take care

Hello Boaters,

Am trying to get plans of Bolgers Wyoming and accompanying manual. Faxed Phil Bolger and Friends a few weeks ago and again a few days ago. No response.

Any ideas on how to get a response? Are they, in fact, responding? What type of payment should be sent if hoping for plans?

Any and all help would be appreciated. I want to get building!

Hi Suzanne
First of all. I read the post you sent after Phil had passed away.. It was the first time I had heard that Phil had died. I cried for two days on and off.. It was so sad. He was a giant intellect and a good man. I am so sorry for your loss.
I am so glad I can contact you via email! (I saw your post on Bolger Yahoo.....)
I am VERY eager to get the Sneakeasy II and Bee plans. I am in Australia near Melbourne. International payments are problematic.. Is there any other way I can pay you? Paypal perhaps? I will off course pay all paypal fees, if you can do it that way.
By the way, have you talked further to Duckworks about them selling your plans? That would be so perfect... Or Instant boats... I mean, you know what I mean...

Well, Ed, a few seasons later, things are not fully balanced out but close enough to discuss plans.
Plans for Design # 581 BEE are listed at $35.-
Plans for Design # 496 BIRDWATCHER in a combined package of both versions are $200.-
All quotes in US$, to build one boat, plus postage to Australia of about $15 per plans-tube.
Turn-around these days should be no more than two weeks.

International Money-Order or a Bank-Draft made out to Phil Bolger & Friends Inc. will work.

Ed, (assuming no other form of communication with me), what is your challenge ?
You enquired, eventually got an answer, but then appear to not have moved on the opportunity to buy these plans.

Phil did not always get to all letters, and advised me that serious folks will remind him of their continuing interest.

You’ve got to understand, Ed, that I am under no obligation to do any business with you, or anyone with your approach to discussing minor correspondence-issues in this language online.

And for extra postage to Australia, MAIB can be read down-under, to keep you cued in on more developments from this office...

Hello All.
This nationally-syndicated Boston-based NPR radio-show one more time confirms the challenges that emanate from partaking in and steering folks towards FACEBOOK:http://www.wbur.org/onpoint/2016/10/19/facebook-ad-tracking-targeting
The ethics of contributing voluntarily to this seem too dark to accept.
As far as possible not purposefully dragging family and friends into this seems indicated.
Yes there are other forms of ‘tracking’ and ‘accumulating’, but few as far-reaching as this scheme.

I have tried a few times to peek over the fence about what some folks appear to be so excited about over in FACEBOOK-World.
But between an apparent ‘wall’ against even sampling and the unwillingness to ‘bare it all’ for our good friends at FB PB&F shall remain outside of those very expensive confines.

Meanwhile MAIB-column # 506 is in the works.
Between work since 2002 and e.g. the recent presentation at a national conference, our work towards much ‘greener types’ in the Commercial Fisheries has for the first time been elevated to Fisheries Management Council level of discussion.
Mil-Spec stuff appears to continue as well with yet another meeting with active-duty folks.
The heavy-lifting project of securing long-term access to the Archive continues unabated step by step.
Etc. Etc.

I personally do not care for facebook in any form as do many other people , deal with it.  Best of luck to you Suzanne ,as for me I will not join facebook and will be unsubscribing from this forum as well.
Keep sailing and building
George

A quote from wooden boat from 2011.  This is a world wide problem S. You should just get Duckworths to sell the plans..

an old problem.....geting plans from Phil Bolger and Friends....any help appreciated

Kind Regards
Ed Koetsier

Well, Ed, a few seasons later, things are not fully balanced out but close enough to discuss plans.
Plans for Design # 581 BEE are listed at $35.-
Plans for Design # 496 BIRDWATCHER in a combined package of both versions are $200.-
All quotes in US$, to build one boat, plus postage to Australia of about $15 per plans-tube.
Turn-around these days should be no more than two weeks.

International Money-Order or a Bank-Draft made out to Phil Bolger & Friends Inc. will work.

Yours

Ed, (assuming no other form of communication with me), what is your challenge ?
You enquired, eventually got an answer, but then appear to not have moved on the opportunity to buy these plans.

Phil did not always get to all letters, and advised me that serious folks will remind him of their continuing interest.

You’ve got to understand, Ed, that I am under no obligation to do any business with you, or anyone with your approach to discussing minor correspondence-issues in this language online.

And for extra postage to Australia, MAIB can be read down-under, to keep you cued in on more developments from this office...

And I, am still without plans for a Bolger Bee and a Bolger Birdwatcher 2, which I started asking about in 2010.
I have built Ross's excellent Flint in the meantime, but a still yearning for that Bee and that Birdwatcher 2, the bw2 being the finest designed yacht for solo seamanship ever, imho, although I never expect to have plans in my hot little hands, I have lost count of all the times I've asked about them WITH NO RESPONSE AT ALL SUSANNE.. am I shouting... ?.. YES I AM!
Cheers

Agree with Leigh, 100%! While I'm all over FB, no need for everyone and everything to be there. Though I do find the idea of a Yahoo system being more secure amusing, especially given the monumental data breach they had a week or two ago! ;)

Continuing the sweet vibes, does anybody here have any feedback on that recent MAIB series on the double-chine CHEBACCO hull ?
There was even a go-fast version...
One more in the next issue, or at least a hint of one from the hands of Phil’s.

Ms Altenburger,

This is your forum and I , for one , am happy to read your words in the forum of your choice. There's no need for you to justify your decisions or engage in debates about them . FB can be a useful forum. It can also be a hive of villainy and trolling. Thanks for all the wonderful articles and information that you provide us with on this forum.

Oh well...in that case you’ll be all set then.
By all means do FACEBOOK...

Except that you should actually listen to this NPR piece, or read up on the flip-side of the matter.

How many times have I heard about all sorts of ‘great’ offerings that ‘they all do this these days’... or something like that.

So, why join this dark Worst-of-the-Wild-West-Days utterly irresponsible unregulated not-so-free-for–all mega-intrusiveness ?

What’s next ?
- Internet Banking ?
- Your Medical Records on a billboard/online ?
- Your personal Schedule past/present/future because you can ‘sync’ your ‘devoices’, all superbly protected by a $29.99.- ‘fire-wall’ ??

I just won’t be enabling any of this by endorsing it.
There are responsibilities that go way beyond casual and ultimately very expensive and unmanageable ‘conveniences’...
For starters, the ethics of this are beyond intolerable...

So, Ed, I recently visited with a guy who had and continues to build boats.
Good get-together.
Productive couple actually.
We swapped notes on building stuff that floats.

Susanne
You select you own security in facebook. That most people don't research how to do that is beside the point. You are swimming against the tide. We will do facebook whether you like it or not. Me personally, don't care. You have never responded to my inquiries about buying plans. Over half a decade of ignored requests. You are a roadblock.
Ed

Etc. Etc.
