Re: My talk this Wednesday 12/14/16 at 7:30pm at Maritime Gloucester, Harbor Loop Gloucester
Go well, Susanne.
I found one of thosechat room links, and went from it to another link from 2012:
Bolger boat discussion Maritime Gloucester Wed. 7:30 pm in Home Port Forum
“Here from the ‘Northshore Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association (TSCA)
”
Susanne Altenburger, PB&F
WHAT: Traditional Small Craft Association Meeting
WHEN: Wednesday, December 14, 7:30pm
WHERE: Maritime Gloucester, 23 Harbor Loop, Gloucester, MA
This Wednesday, December 14, the TSCA welcomes Susanne
Altenburger of the world-famous design firm Phil Bolger & Friends. Susanne
will discuss the design and construction of a 39-foot prototype military patrol
boat, which was recently completed after an epic building process.
The boat was originally commissioned by the US Navy as a
military craft that could be built and operated by nations that didn't have
access to traditional patrol craft. The design needed to be efficient, built of
sustainable materials, and able to be constructed by non-professional boat
builders. Oh, and it also had to fit inside a standard shipping container.
Despite these design challenges, and the unfortunate
timing of the recession and subsequent spending cuts, Susanne persevered and
launched a fully operational vessel. Subsequent on-water testing has proven the
validity of the design parameters, and this boat could point the way towards a
future for highly efficient, sustainable vessels for fishing, commercial or
pleasure use.
Susanne has been designing boats as part of Phil Bolger
& Friends for over twenty years, and she has continued that firm's
innovative and often "outside the box" approach. Much of that time has been
spent emphasizing efficient and sustainable designs. She has deep convictions on
the future of boating as well as the maritime industry in Gloucester, and she is
candid in sharing what direction she thinks we should be headed. Much like the
best Bolger-designed boats, you may not agree with everything, but you just may
end up questioning the things you think you know. It should be a fascinating
evening, hope to see you there!
”
And here two related
entries by different folks on one of our local chat-rooms (one that banned me
years ago...for too much substance on boats, fishing-policy, boat-building etc.
I gather...): http://capeannonline.yuku.com/forum/view/id/1#.WE7BKaUzWUk
You’ll
get some of the local ‘spirit’ from the no-can-do obstructionist ‘dark
side’...
