Re: [bolger] Digest Number 6253

Andrew,
I can't give any advice about Hobbie masts, BUT I can speak about a 'Mast Replacement'.

Many years ago I had to replace the mast on my Potter 19. {it may have started out as a circular one - I just don't remember} I originally had to 'Jury Rig' a few things to so I could use 'Sail Slugs' & other things to make things easier & quicker.

Therefore when I needed to replace it I decided to get a mast that was already set-up for what I wanted / needed. DWYER Masts had a great selection of Masts & 'Profiles'. I selected one that was 'Oval' in cross-section {that was IMMEDIATLY 'stronger' than a circular cross-section} which was ALREADY set-up with a 'lipped' slot for 'Sail Slugs', and a cut-out, just up from the foot, where they were inserted.

It came in 20ft sections and they would cut it to any length you specified. I wanted it 9inches longer than the original. Since I had to pay for the entire 20ft - I had them send me that too ! {still have that in my basement !} The cost really wasn't much to start with and I got exactly what I needed.
