Re: 12' Bolger Pirogue looking for good home, Melbourne Australia

Simply a shame if this beauty goes to the tip!

Gary, you could try N.* Peter Evans, the only bloke I virtually know way down your way and close to you who may be interested. Probably very interested indeed! He was seen about the traps on other yahoo groups as recently as late in the month last September eg over on the duckworksforum with his new 500 row boat designs list (all yahoogroups seem mostly to be all but dead now, not just sleeping. (flikr is about to charge fees too)).

Peter's old url webpages give his contact details at the page bottom:

I'm not too sure, but I think he is around the other side of the bay a bit east from you... certainly worth trying a phone call if your Peero has to go quick. From what I know of Peter, I reckon if he would be keen to take up your offer, and to paddle-sail cruise a Bolger Peero. AND, did you say "Also some alma/outriggers and cross beams,.."? How could Peter possibly resist? ;-)

Have you seen this:

PS. I'll cross post this reply to you on the Michalak yahoo group... hope you see it before tomorrow and take a boat trip to the tip....

*If I recall correctly, from somewhere..., I believe Peter's 'N.' honorific is a Red Dwarf reference... :)

PPS. How much to freight the little beauty into Qld? Cheaper than the ply cost I'd wager.

Nice boat and video!

Time to downsize, alas.  I have a 12' Bolger Pirogue built long, long ago.  It has been stored outside so it is pretty rough, but it was pretty rough to start off with. A short video of it in action athttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUQzcjSZvRs&list=PLKmAUopefWA5F-VmKrgjmMxypNjA15i1fhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUQzcjSZvRs&list=PLKmAUopefWA5F-VmKrgjmMxypNjA15i1f

Also some alma/outriggers and cross beams, plus an old windsurfer mast and sail.  I had an idea of converting it to a trimaran, but all I managed to do was break a spar.

The Pirogue is great fun for shallow water sailing, sort of like a duck punt only with a lee board and push pull rudder. The family has had a lot of fun with it.  It would be a shame to all in the hard rubbish but that is where it is heading on November 15th unless a Melbourne Bolger person would like to rescue it.  Any body interested?

thanks

Gary
