Re: [bolger] june bug kick-up rudder & leeboard

Thanks, David. The Michalak stuff on rudders and leeboard was just what I
needed.

Both the Gypsy and the Cartopper have kick up rudders or at least they are
not fixed down. Gypsy is in Payson's New Instant boats and there is an
article in an old Boatbuilder on making a big composite wing nut for the
Cartopper rudder. I am going to have to dig it out in the next week or so as
we are near the stage of cutting out rudders. Both rudders are a variation
on the theme where the head has the pintals and the tiller and the blade is
bolted on and can pivot up and down. If you are ordering plans from Payson I
am sure that he would throw in a sketch of the rudders from one of the other
designs if you asked.

Take a good look at Jim Michalak's site.
http://www.apci.net/~michalak/#LEEBOARDISSUES
He's rerunning some articles on leeboards, and he also has good rudder
info.
Check his wayback issues linked at the bottom of his page. It's housed
on another server, but much of what you want will be pretty easy to find
there.
