I bow to your greater experience. (you:11000 miles, me: 0 miles).
Still, I'm sure you will understand if I continue in my feeling that
Jessie Cooper is not an appropriate trans-ocean vehicle.

I do have the following question. Bolger wrote that one of the
idiosycracies of Jessie Coooper is that she is more stable on one
tack that the other due to the rig being off center. Which tack is
the more stable? It seems obvious that with the rig and daggerboard
trunk on the starboard side, she should heel more easily to
starboard. But assuming the boat is ballasted to float level, I can
think of as many reasons why she should heel more easily to port as
to starboard.

Thanks,

Peter

Yeah, this has been discussed before. Phil and Suzanne called the guy up
to chat with him about it. He claimed to have "improved" it, though he
doesn't credit the origin, has never been on one and has never had one
of his improved versions built. Strange...It's identical even down to
book shelf placement. Even more odd, since he has so many of his own
"legitimate" designs.

While the As series are not the "Perfect" boat for ocean crossing it is a
boat that is quite able to cross oceans which is a small portion of the
sailing one actually does...

After 18000 miles in our AS39 Loose Moose 2 and 11000 miles in our Jessie
Cooper Loose Moose 1 I think we have shown that the envelope can be pushed
and in some comfort as well.

The Bahama Mama is a very neat boat but more of a vacation cruiser than an
ocean cruiser ( just not enough room for the needed cargo) We have
considered this boat for Loose Moose 3 but decided against on comfort and
stores...
