Progress on the LSME

FBBB --

The light scooner Margaret Ellen nears completion. For all my talk,
she's build more or less to plan, with only two *intended*
modifications.

I widened the decking to 12" in the rear cockpit, and 12" narrowing
to 6" in the forward cockpit. I suppose I should have had Pippo run
the numbers for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if she'll float on
beam ends. If she doesn't, I won't be disappointed. The wider deck is
mostly for my fat ass.

On a last minute whim, I also decide to a combing to both cockpits.
Trims it out nicely and has enough of a lip to keep loose water from
dripping it without being uncomfortable under the back of my knee.

Pardon the surf-speak, but I am totally stoked about my sail
butchery. For whatever reason, I was very intimidated by making the
sails, enough that I nearly sent away for pre-mades (despite needing
the money for other things.) But with two rolls of Leander's carpet
tape and a ten dollar grommet kit, and I've got a damn fine looking
mainsail. Here in Montauk used sails are for the taking. One less
thing to get in the way of making more boats!

Lastly, while I had the main hoisted, nearly every car stopped and
commented. Most have seen this thing taking shape since I moved the
construction out of the house and on to the driveway in May.
Schooners are *magic*. Something in our collective Yankee unconscious
I guess.

YIBB,

David
