Juin Bug "Polliwog" - launched!
After a failed attempt at getting my boat into the water last week (too
little time, first time at an unfamiliar park, long portage to the water
and who stays with the baby?), My Juin (French for June) Bug "Polliwog"
finally got her feet wet today at the Lac d'Aiguebelette here in
southeastern France.
First, "Polliwog" was christened by my wife, Agnès, and infant son,
Fletcher, with a bottle of Pelforth Brune, my favorite French beer,
poured not smashed on the bow, with a little left over for me. Then,
before my French in-laws and my own parents visiting from the States
this week for Fletcher's christening (no beer involved) and first
birthday, we rowed out into the brilliant green water under a warm
September sun.
After a couple of hours of messing about, taking various family members
out for rides, even little Fletcher with a proper infant life vest, we
headed for the port village for ice cream and then home for a little
Franco-American barbecue.
Yippee!
Good news, bad news to follow, but I am quite pleased with myself and my
little boat!
Regards to all,
Matthew
