Re: Epoxy in France?
Matthew,
working through the pile of last month's messages I came across your
question regarding epoxy sources in Europe. You can contact Thomas and
Michael Thon <time.out@...>
They are specialised in products for building multihulls.
In 1999 their Boatepox 700 ranged between DM 15,14 and 19,49/kg tax included.
It is formulated 2:1 and comes with 4 hardeners.
I'm not shure but I think Stefan Nohn uses the stuff for his Seabird'68.

Hi, Matthew.
I live in Spain, and I'm using SP epoxy in my Micro... not a bargin, but the
cheapest I could find.
I payed 644 euros for 25kg resin and 6,25kg hardner.
A 10kg kit costs something like 147 euros.
A 3,75kg kit is 85 euros.
1kg kit costs 27 euros.
I got it directly from a wholesaler, but I don't find the web address right
now.
Good luck
Francisco
p.s.: found it! Ishttp://www.spsystems.com

Try Charles ( The plywood supplier ) you can find their ads in Loisers
Nautique. They supplied all the epoxy and Ply for Loose Moose and Loose
Moose 2. They give a pretty good discount if you let them know at the
beginning how much you need and an even better discount if you belong to the
Amateur Boatbuilding ASSOC ( UA)

Matthew, my epoxy is the I-SX10 Legno (legno means wood) made by
Mates Italiana. Mixing ratio 3+1 in weight. The resin costs about 7
Euros a liter, the hardener about twice as much. VERY long pot life.
That's the best deal I've been able to find in Italy, and it seems a
pretty good product indeed. They also sell every kind of fiberglass.
They've no web site, just an e-mail address:
matesitaliana@...
However they don't seem very happy to make business over the internet.
We have THE italian epoxy system called C-system, manufactured by
Cecchi (http://www.cecchi.it/Informazioni/00MenuInfi.html). Cost is
about 80 US$ per gallon. We also have a West System distributor: see
http://www.vernicicolor.it/shopsite_tx/store/html/Acquisti/Privati/Acq
_Wes_Res_Ind.htm for prices.
Finally, I remember I've seen ads for epoxies in french nautical
magazines (Loisirs Nautiques, Bateau).
Congratulations for your boat! Best, Pippo

was having trouble finding fiberglass tape:

I don't know anything about them myself.

I apologize if this message appears twice. I think I fat-fingered it
the first type, but I'm not positive. :-)
Someone on a different list suggested (for a Finn) two German
sources:

I don't know anything about them myself.

At 90 Frf for a 250 ml kit (approaching USD $200/gallon), with little
reduction if you buy larger quantities, my local marine supply store is
not a good source for epoxy. U.S. distributors either can't or won't
ship overseas.
Does anyone know of a European source for reasonably-priced epoxy?
"Polliwog" and I, and any future projects, will be very greatful!
