Glue and screw the first one. Use epoxy, or 3M 5200.
Then, before completion, remove the screws.

Replacement is done by planing/sanding the old ones, and then fitting new
ones with glue. If need be, one can add nails, but I don't recommend it.
Dear Group

Yep, Port Townsend was great. Don't recall ever seeing so many beautiful boats
in one spot. Meeting those of you who attended was an added pleasure. Can't
wait to see all the pictures.

Pointy Skiff #1 has the floatation installed (2" styrefoam sheets cut and packed
to fit; cost about $9.00 - forget the 1:1 mixed pour in place), seats installed,
ready to sand and prime the interior. Interior will be 2 coats of light gray
latex. The hull has two coats of epoxy over 1/4" ACX; the bottom is 3/8" marine;
also with two epoxy coats. Ready to sand and paint the hull - 2 coats of RED
porch/deck latex. Grandson #1 special order paint.

Deviations from plans so far have been the framing which is all 13/16" left
over Poplar, the epoxy, and the bottom skids which will be added after painting
the hull. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to replace the worn
out skids if I attached them before the interior is finished. Mr. Payson's
instructions call for attaching from the inside out, before completing the interior.
I also used bronze (recyled) boat screws in attaching the chine logs and the
bottom. How do you spell o-v-e-r-b-u-i-l-t. Never mind the 90# design weight
and the $200 budget. Of course, most of the glue is 3M 5200. (Chuck, I found
some at the new HD, less than 3 miles from my home.) Opps, almost forgot to
mention the 1/2'x 1" mahogany for the inwale and gunnel strips.

Having a ball and looking forward to a 9/30 launch.
