Re: Love Bugged

living in coastal Georgia,
I find that lovebug/epoxy surface is great for non-skid decks.

Seriously though, they are attracted to white or glossy surfaces
naturally. My first boat must have hundreds of them encapsulated in
my first coat of epoxy resin. I just glassed over them and
fossilized them for posterity. Now I use a bug light at night. The
first slightest hint of a lovebug and I work on something else for a
couple of weeks.
Do you mean like my two 6 year old grandsons helping me?? Or is it my
impatience as I get near the end of the project and get "sloppy" in my haste
and have to do things over? I have been in Florida for love bug season and
I couldn't top that.

Okay, let's hear some of the really crazy things that have delayed
list members from their duly appointed rounds of boat building. This
thought is inspired by my plans last Saturday (Tropical Storm Helene
having passed harmlessly by) to fiberglass the new cabintop on my
boat. Then I realized I couldn't. (Don H. in Panama City will
appreciate why not.) You see, here in North Florida, it's love bug
season. Goofy bugs that mate as they fly through the air, splat on
your windshield with disgusting regularity and land, permantly, on
any
slightly tacky surface. Unthinkingly a week ago I was putting a small
filler piece of decking (about 4 by 24 inches) and with a little
extra
epoxy decided to seal the top. By the time the glue set, there were
at
least 100 dead love bugs in it. The thought of what a 14-foot by 7
foot cabin top would look like doesn't bear thinking about. Then
again, maybe I could just add another coat of expoxy, then paint and
call it non-skid....

What's been your most unusual delay?
