New schooner
I've read some of the messages on combining design features of the
folding, light and singlehand schooner into a "modern schooner". A
schooner with a bowsprit that can de sailed singlehand seems
attractive to me. To learn how to sail I am planning to buy/build
some small cheap open boat. This would also serve to at least have
something to be sailing on before I can afford to start building a
schooner. Has a concept of a modern schooner been completed? Some of
the answers to messages say that the light schooner is unsafe to sail
singlehanded. Is this because the arrangement of cleats for halyards,
and the position of the tiller don't allow singlehanded sailing? If
that is the case then it would seem that the light schooner might be
adapted to singlehand sailing. It is difficult to get an impression
of what size to choose, a look at the real thing weould be helpfull.
I couldn't find any reports on any of above schooners in the
Netherlands. Is there someone in the Netherlands (preferably near
Zeist) who has one?
