Vince,
I'm glad it's working for you - I was not knocking your recommendation, just
a heads up to others to experiment a bit before committing. I'm using
Fiberglass Coatings Inc. from St Petersburg FL. It is very touchy to go off
quickly if mixed over three or four oz. at a time in our 85+ degree weather.
If my ply was coated all over, I could probably just soak the masonite
backing off. I was really surprised at the bond, even a spilled drop of
epoxy will pull the white facing off locally. I'm going to try a 32 grit
belt sander when I really get ready to finish this joint. Right now I'm
still tabbing on the cabin sides.

Donald,
It would appear that the common wisdom that "epoxy is epoxy" isn't
always true after all. I am using Raka. I have tried glueing tileboard
pieces to each other both with straight epoxy and with thickened. In
every case, it did not adhere at all to the glossy white side. It did
stick very well to the brown masonite side. I have made about 24
splices using tileboard with peel-ply. I'm sorry my "tip" caused you
extra work. What brand were you using?

All,
I thought the tile board sounded great, and having one last structural
splice to make, I decided to try it. I didn't have any peel ply, but what
the heck, I don't mind sanding one joint - no waxed paper squishing around,
great idea.
Well, my hot-weather epoxy LOVES it - now I have 1/8 of masonite to sand off
in addition to the excess epoxy, and it is BONDED. I tried to lift the tile
board off with a wide chisel and lifted off one ply of wood instead.
Try before you commit! Lesson learned again...
