Re: [bolger] Re: Summer Breeze update...
Garth,
Thanks for the tip. I have a strip of stainless strap hinge around here
somewhere. I bet that might work also. Any butt hinge that was narrower
than wedge is thick - in this case 1 1/2" - you could glue or pin the
hinge in a kerf same as the nylon strap. Thanks again for the fresh
viewpoint!

I like that Cary/Michalak rudder idea a lot -- and it occurs to me
that if you cut the central wedge piece a bit wider, you could do the
whole thing without messing with the seatbelt nylon -- just screw a
couple of hinges onto it.
The overall system is very attractive either way, for ease of
inserting or removing the rudder. As the owner of a "Payson eyes"
rudder, who has attempted installing the steel rod while the boat
bobbed on the water, I can say it'd be a huge improvement.
Thanks for the updates.
All best,
Garth

that if you cut the central wedge piece a bit wider, you could do the

The overall system is very attractive either way, for ease of
inserting or removing the rudder. As the owner of a "Payson eyes"
rudder, who has attempted installing the steel rod while the boat
bobbed on the water, I can say it'd be a huge improvement.
Thanks for the updates.

I'm experimenting with Ted Cary's idea of using nylon seat belt webbing
to hang a rudder. Jim Michalak did a write up on it. I'm modifying it a
bit. So far it looks promising.

Great site. Love this idea of watching you design and build as you go. Thanks.
