Hello all,

I just added three new images of my Surf project, showing her
painted. They are in the files, under the Surf's Up folder:

http://www.egroups.com/files/bolger/Surf%27s+Up/

I launched her, last night, and went for a row. No leaks! She rows
beautifully, but is not very directionally stable. The 1 1/2" square
shoe isn't enough to keep her tracking straight. I'm going to add a
small skeg to solve the problem.

I also broke the rowing bench. The lip that rests on the mast step
broke after plowing through the fifth powerboat wake omn the river.
It's plenty stiff enough, but the 1/4" plywood isn't strong enough to
hold up well. I'm going to screw on a reinforcing piece to take the
load. If anyone builds one of these benches, use 3/8" plywood.
Otherwise, the bench is a great idea.

I'm still waiting for my sail. I'll build the rudder and leeboard
this week. I'll also cut down the Laser mast I got from a friend to
16'. Hopefully, I can take her sailing this weekend!

I'll post more pictures oher afloat soon.

Take care,
Pete Reynolds
