Re: [bolger] Re: Watervan Writeup/Australia

Thanks, Jeff:

In our part of the world, we have a delightful fish called a "Crappie"
which, despite the name, is very tasty. They are most often caught in the
middle of the night in the first three months of the year. I have been on a
number of all night expeditions where we hung lines over the sides, and
settled into our sleeping bags to await a bite. The Watervan would make a
great Crappie boat.

It didnt really strike me how big it was till I saw the print.
Despite the photos.
Great boat, especially in a cold climate.
Also terrific for people with partners who "dont really like boating!"
And what really appeals to me is the idea of sitting at
the table with a cuppa and a fishing rod out the window, waiting for
Sunday lunch to bite.

There was a write up in MAIB that included a study print, I can not remember
the issue right now. I will see if I can find it.

Watervan was one of four 22' x 8' step sharpies (or variations) that
appeared in MAIB in the fall of 96. From "Dave Thibodeau's Index for
Messing About In Boats" (
http://www200.pair.com/grinder/maib/index.html)these were the
articles:

22 Footers V14 #7 p24
#636 Champlain A 22' Trailerable Outboard Motorboat 14 7 24
#631 Retriever Fast, Highway Capable 22' Cruiser 14 8 26
#632 Waterman (sic) Maximum Interior Volume 22; Cruiser 14 9 20
Inlet Runner Concept 22' 14 10 26

"For Back Issues of Messing About In Boats Contact: Bob Hicks 29
Burley Street Wenham Mass 01984". I'm sure Bob would appreciate your
subscription, too. As I've said before, if you're reading this
newsgroup, you should be a subscriber.

As I recall, there are inward-opening doors P&S, and little fold-down
platforms for boarding, etc.

This design seems to me to be the ultimate camper-trailer for a
family vacation. Just paint it to match your full-sized van tow
vehicle.

how do you handle coming alongside a dock? Where does the crew stand
to fend off? Where do you hang the fenders?

My question about the Watervan, and some other Bolger PowerBoxes is,
how do you handle coming alongside a dock? Where does the crew stand
to fend off? Where do you hang the fenders?

Jeff Gilbert asked that this get knocked into shape and posted. The
files are a little larger than I'd like but there are two B/W pix and

Boat looks awesome. Enjoy.
