[bolger] Re: Sunk! Debriefing
>What lake is LSME in?The Margaret Ellen currently resides at Southlake Beach on Lake Montauk.
This formerly fresh water lake was dynamited open to Block Island
sound back in the twenties, and when the hurricane '34 destroyed the
old harbor area on Fort Pond bay, it become Montauk's main harbor.

I was down to the shore a little while ago and a beach cat in the
marina had blown over on its side. A sail on a furler had come
slightly unrolled.
What lake is LSME in?

She's dry on the beach. The only think I lost was the 15 foot section
of polypropylene I was using as my jib halyard.
Once I got the cockpits bailed out, I towed the scooner out by her
anchor line to see how she was behaving in the chop and see if I
could figure out why she sunk. It didn't take long to see the
sequence play itself out.
Her fine bow was cutting into the larger waves, rather than riding
over them; and the largest these were breaking across her deck. The
combing is still in temporary installation mode, just screwed into
place, and water can just run through the gaps and into the cockpit.
Even if the combing were all caulked up, the biggest waves were
breaking right across everything. Of course the more water the
forward cockpit took, the lower she rode, and the smaller a wave it
took to put water in the boat. It was only a matter of time till she
was settled on the bottom.
