Re: Mid Atlan. Modified Gypsy

Dear Pete,

The space under the foredeck is completely sealed. The deck starts
at the bulkhead just forward of the mast. He sealed up this bulkhead.
The seat tanks are also sealed tight. I'm not sure if the guy had any
access ports installed. It didn't look like it to me, standing on the
float.

He told me that he can right the boat after a knockdown, and bail
her out. He was tossing the idea of installing an Elvstrom bailer
around. He sails his boat on Barnegat Bay, where it's pretty windy
and a small chop builds up.

I'm afraid I can't remember the owner's name, and I didn't write
it down. He was a great guy, though, and I'm sure he'd help you out
if you coulds contact him. I asked him to join the group, so maybe
he'll show up, one of these days.

Take care,
Pete Reynolds

The mods on htis boat look simiular to those found ina
B&B design called the spindrift.
There is a paper on design which I believe is at
Mickalacks site on ballest and self righting.
I would venture to say that the Mid-Alt Gypsy would
come up pretty dry.
Do some volume displacement calulations , 1cu ft = 62
lbs. and see what you come up with for floatation on
the side.

Anyone know more than about this boat than what can be seen in the
pictures? Is the area under the bow deck sealed off? Do the seat
tanks have enough volume to make the boat come up pretty dry after
righting her? Are they completely sealed off or is there some

Any chance of getting some dimensions, or is the builder unknown?
Any tricks to generate the curves needed on the panels for the seats
more easily?
