[bolger] Reply on the Topaz cockpit
Tim.....I looked the cockpit and bow over today. The bow is three ft
up from the water line. Actually a little more as I don't see me
loading 2600 lb. aboard to bring her down to lines. The cockpit floor
is about 7-8" above this water line. Phil says in the plans to not
worry about placing drain lines low as the floor is amply high.
Visually this is very nicely laid out and the bow does not look to
high. In fact I have intertained the idea of placing bulworks up
front, arcing upward to a raised nose like I did on a minitrawler I
designed and built last year. The only thing stopping me, is, I like
the looks of the bow now and so will not change it. In case you still
are not receiving my mail yet, the foreward cockpit is over six ft.
long and two adults could sleep here under canvas if they liked let
alone kids.
After your concern, I did build the front door today. It is strong and
has mahogany stops built around the edges. The door sits flush and
backed yet again by additional stops on the back side glued to the door
frame. All the front windows according to Bolger are to made of
safety glass including the door. There is a lap peice I built in that
goes down on the cockpit side about 4" that fits very tightly and could
be gasketed. With this door dogged down, I don't see how any water
would make it's way in. Keep dreamin Brad
