question, but I think that the heavy keel is a major factor. It
reduces the need and effect of live ballast.

The single-handed schooner has a chapter in "Boats with an Open Mind"
The teal was my first project, but only because I didnt' know about
the surf. The surf really isn't anymore work, but it sure looks like
more boat. I'd build the surf, then the schooner. I also think the
surf would be a great platform for playing with rigs. I got all my
sails out of used up racing sails -- fore, main, jib and staysail for
about 30 dollars in carpet tape and a grommet kit. You could have a
lot of fun trying different things on the surf!
Of course God bless if you start right in on the schooner! I wouldn't
mind having one of those myself.

After racking my brains looking for boats to build I think I have
narrowed it to two the single handed schooner or the crab skiff
(surf). For my first project.A couple a questions.
What makes the single handed schooner a single hander ? The sail
area?
On the Crab skiff could I put a gaff rig with a head sail like
whats on the front of the schooner? What size main and headsail?
Yes I know you can put anything on it but I want to know if it will
work as well or better than the original rig.
Where can I get more info on the single handed schooner& crab skiff?
Not much info at Harold H.Payson & Co.Looked for more info but came up
with nothing on the net .
Anyone wanna go halfs on building a light or single handed schooner in
S. Cal.? I don't have a place to build her.
Thanks,
Todd
