exhilerating, which brings to mind the picture in the files section. Thanks,

Elegant Punt. Mr bolger replied with the plans, that a worthwhile
modification would be to build the sides 4 inches deeper, though it
would cost an extra sheet of ply. He said Bee makes a very good
tender, and tows well with a substantial weight in the stern.

building and using a Bee. I don't recall who it was, but I do recall
him recommending that the sheer be raised a couple of inches for
additional freeboard. Evidently it was a little hot rod.

and plans are $35. I asked him if my Honda 2 would drive it and he replied
that it would take 5hp to make it plane but shouldn't have more than 5hp. I
had not thought about planing in a 7 and a half ft. boat which probably
means that I'm getting old. I sent $35 and will see if I can make one in the
basement this winter. Clyde

around in the "Bee" prototype in the files. The photo comes from
Bernie Wolfard's "Common Sense News" from about 10 years ago.

look up issue # 72, 1991. Bernie talks about Bolger's beginings with
the "step sharpie" powerboat hull, Bee, and how it lead to
Mircotrawler and Hawkeye. It even has a photo of Dave Montgomery
buzzing around in the first Bee.
If I ever get my scanner up maybe I can sneek a copy of the arilcle
out to you all.
Rick
Rick tells me off the List that Bolger's Bee (Design #581) is a half-scale (7' 5-1/2" LOA) rendition of Microtrawler from the sheer down. Built light at 70-75 lbs, of 1/4" acx, it looks like a fast motor dinghy. The purpose was to test out the concept of the planing box keel of Microtrawler. Rick says he's seen photos of several, including one with Bolger in it. "With a 6 hp, and one person, it is suppose to fly in flat water. Some guy put a 15 horse on his 'not to well constructed' Bee and then proceeded to scare himself. The hull started flexing as he was skipping over wakes. I seem to remember he beefed it up with lots of polyester and mat, put a small electric outboard on, and added a lawn chair for fishing in small ponds."
Has anyone on the List built a Bee or know of a related URL?
