The transom drags if I push the speed up towards displacement speed - but
normally I throttle back 'way below maximum revs without noticable loss of
speed, and I think it keeps clear of the water. Under sail, I get gurgling
from the stern, too, but had put it down to water splashing through the
little gap between the rudder and the bottom of the hull. The gurgling only
happens when the rudder is angled one way or the other, and the boat is
scooting along (as in surfing in a following sea).

BTW I get about 15 or 20 miles to the gallon at maximum revs, give or take.
I guess I get double this with my usual low revs.
