Re: Long Micro Fiberglass Question
Todd,
I am not as familiar with Long Micro as I should be, but in my
Micro, which is under construction, I have used 1/4" ply in all but
the bottom which is double. It appears quite strong as it is. I am
applying 2oz cloth to the exposed surfaces to prevent checking of the
ply and for durability purposes. the bottom has been glassed and
epoxied with 6 oz cloth. It is relatively bullet proof.
I don't think that the strength rendered by the 4 oz cloth will
amount to much to make it worth the bother. I would only do this to
prevent water penetration of the layers of ply and to give a good
surface to paint and later clean.
Defender Marine sells 2 oz cloth in wide rolls that should do the
job and use far less epoxy than the 4 oz.

I am concerned about strength since
designed it, since he could be certain that Long Micros would
sometimes encounter rough conditions. Do you have a reason not to
trust his judgement?

I am thinking of overall fiberglassing hull inside and out, decking,
frames and major components with 4 oz. fiberglass with several coats
of epoxy. (besides taped seams)I am concerned about strength since
the waters the boat
will cruise in will be relatively rough at times. I am also using
1/2" A/C plywood on hull, deck and frames.Any opinions?
