RE: [bolger] Oars for a Light Dory

Griff,

Barkley Sound Oar and Paddle have a formula they use to determine oar
length. I've included their url.http://barkleysoundoar.com/index.html
They seem to have reasonably priced quality oars and paddles.

Griff,
I built a Light Dory last winter and have had a blast rowing her
over the past year. I got a pair of 7 1/2' spoon blade oars from Shaw
& Tenney and I'd recommend them to you. They weren't cheap - about
$200, but good oars make a huge difference!
7 1/2' seems just about perfect, though I would like to try a
pair of 8' oars just feel the difference.
Keep us posted on your progress. The double ended version of the
Light Dory should definitely turn heads!

I've got a boat with essentially the same dimensions as a light dory with
7.5 foot oars. According the texts I've read, for a 4 foot distance across
the oarlocks, 7.5 feet is the 'ideal'. They feel about right to me.
