Re: [bolger] Bantam 16/20 Anyone?
This fellow is building a Bantam 16/20. I've invited him to join this list,
but I don't know if he's lurking here or not, we haven't heard anything
from him:

There are two means of refuge from the misery of life - music and cats.

> Is anyone building or thinking about building the Bantam?I'm a sailor, not a power boater, but I think it looks pretty neat. I
have it penciled in as the boat for the riverine portion of my never-
to-be-taken cruise from Lake Champlain to Eastport, Maine, to be
chronicaled in my never-to-be-written book 'Sailing around New
England.'
However, there are a couple of points: 1) There is very little
storage space. Just about every place you would like to put a locker
turns out to be outside the boat, 2) I am a little dubious about the
sturdyness of the demountable cabin, 3) how you get from the helm to
the dock when making a single-handed landing.
Of course, I haven't actually seen the plans, just the MAIB article.

Hi,
Is anyone building or thinking about building the Bantam?
I recently sent Mr. Bolger a sketch of mine and he replied that he is
quite busy at the time and not taking private commissions at the
moment (just as well, cause I probably can't afford it anyway). He
did however suggest a few designs, one being the Bantam 16/20. This
is very close to the concept of the boat I sketched although it looks
nothing like it. Actually I like his much better, but then that is
why I sent it to him in the first place, to expand on it and give me
something safe with the same concept. If I have built what I drew, I
probably would have sunk :-)
Thing is, he had already done it! I guess I'm not the only person
with a thing for toon boats.
Let me know your thoughts on this boat. I would like to start
sometime after the new year.

BTW: My Nymph is finished. Painted the bottom last weekend. Just
needs water now! Only took me a little over a year! (I built the
PSkiff also in that time)
