[bolger] Re: A big thanks
The skiff has a paraply bottom panel and luan sides/bulkheads/decks. I'm
religiously coating the para with thinned epoxy. It will be dry-stored, so
I'm not concerned about the paraply. As I police up my scraps, I'm looking
for more voids to boil; I suspect that is the weakness of these "non-marine"
plywoods.

The only other mail order source I've got a catalog for good boatbuilding
stuff is Hamilton Marine in Maine (www.hamiltonmarine.com). Great catalog,
even more bronze cleats & such than Jamestown sells. And I think their
fastener prices are even better, especially fo stainless. I used bronze
ring nails ( ordered from Jamestown), thinking they would be less brittle
than stainless. HA! another learning experience.
BTW, Don, my piece of 3/4" paraply is still floating in the canal. No delam
and thats about 2-3 weeks of soaking. Decided to leave it there till it
waterlogs and sinks or an oyster grows on it. I'd bet on the oyster. Are
you building the skiff of paraply as planned or did your boiling test rule
that out?

Brad,
Glad it's working for you - we want that Topaz launched early next spring!
I did a little taping Tuesday on a 12-foot skiff I'm building to haul in my
pickup - it's been warm here so I'm taking advantage of it with the epoxy.
Feel for you up there...
I received a box of stainless screws and bronze ring nails from Jamestown
Distributors online - they really burned me on shipping, $10 for a small
2-lb. package, and they back-ordered 3-inch glass tape.
Any suggestions on suppliers of such - Defender doesn't have much in their
online catalog - may have to revert to mailorder.

Don, a good explanation. I will give your advice a try this week.
Working in a tray is something I had never thought of. I had done a
similar wet out (never upside down) on the level using plastic. I
invented expletives when the stuff would want to follow the the wet
glass when I lifted it. It also as you know, was wastfull. Again
thanks, Brad
