RE: Building 'BEE'
Bruce {and Jeremy, and other 'interested parties'},
It was an article in 'Messing Around in Boats' several years back that
first caught my attention {toward BEE}. A later article discussed
'expanding' her to 10 feet LOA. The 'problem' with that was [MY PERSONAL
OPINION] he also WIDENED her proportionally. Good for his intended
purpose . . a fishing boat, but made her look like a 'floating
triangle'. However I clipped it and saved it in my BEE file.
I had several reasons for building BEE, one of which was that the plans
cost almost nothing . . . Bernie was 'closing out' different plans as
his 'format' changed. Another was that the 7ft3in LOA and narrow beam
was 'handy'. (when I sold her she fir right in the back of a station
wagon . . . a little tilt to get beyond the full beam point and she
dropped right in!)
If I were to 'stretch' her it would be just that . . . increase LOA to
10 feet, but leave the beam alone, or only increase it about 6 inches. I
believe a number of NA's {including Mr. Bolger} feel that most boats
could be a BIT longer with no real detrimental impact.

. . .I'll second that! After the recent posts regarding BEE, I dug out
my copy of the plans I got from CSD and found a copy of the old CSD
newsletter in the envelope. The address of the fellow in Virginiawho
built the stretched BEE, is listed. . . .
