I am pretty sure this is the stuff that wooden boat builders Skiff
Craft, a great lakes operation, used for their lapstrake hulls. They
were definately using a plywood that had a very smooth exterior to get
that brilliant finish they were famous for.
Maybe one of our members from the Great Lakes could confirm this.

and clamp the cut out panels on a table, then with a router make a
groove the width of the tape I'm using,(half on each panel), the
depth slightly more than the thickness of the tape. Then laid on the
flat part of the driveway, plastic, the carefully aligned and
weighted
(to prevent shifting) panels -with twice saturated straight epoxy,
the
well saturated tape, peel ply, plastic, a flat board, and lots of
weight. The flat board being wider than the joint was pressed down
tight to the panels by the weight.
Next day pulled everything off and I have a very nice butt joint, the
excess epoxy leaked out each end and will be cut off. A gentle flip
of the joined panels and repeat of the above steps for the other side.

I am getting ready to start my Micro after the first of the year and
have been thinking about using MDO. It is available in my area
(Ft.Worth,Tx) and is cheaper than marine ply or B/C pine. If I use
marine (hardwood or fir) I'll have to order it. I was told it could
arrive in less than a week but the MDO is here now.(3/8" is $29.88 a 4x8

James, you're right, of course. I just wonder why the guy at the
store couldn't have said as much and saved me a bit of confusion.
But, at 61, maybe Confusion has become my middle name in place of
Charles.

A very helpful employee-owned company.
called MDO on this List. When I asked about MDO at the Windsor
Plywood finishing outlet here in Victoria a month ago, they said they
carry it as 'Crezon'. Maybe it's like soft drinks: 'Soda pop' is
known to Americans as 'soda' and to Canadians as 'pop'.
In any case, the guy at Windsor said they could only get Crezon/MDO
in 3/4' (I found it stocked) and 1/2" (I couldn't find any), and it
was yellowish instead of white. The price list at Windsor also showed
3/8" but the guy indicated it was only available by special order.
The price for 3/8" was $31.95 Cdn for a 4' x 8' sheet and 1/2" was
$39.95. I've lost my note on the price for 3/4".
So how about elsewhere in Canada and also the Pacific Northwest? Do
you have a wider selection of MDO/Crezon available and what's the
price?

I think that Crezon is probably a brand name, like Coca Cola. It's generic
name would be MDO.

Thanks for the Crezon MDO link, James. I'd only ever seen the stuff
called MDO on this List.
Do
you have a wider selection of MDO/Crezon available and what's the
price?
