Re: [bolger] Re: source for trailers
I don't think the micro needs a boat trailer, at least mine didn't. I
modified a flat bed by screwing down a 2x4 wood channel down the middle;
that held the keel and the full weight of the boat.
Then, I added two 2 by 4 bunks athwart, right underneath a bulkhead. Mine
did have a vertical up front to draw up against (and you can buy these as
bolt-on). But, I can imagine one more angled, forward, fore-and-aft bunk
down low to capture the knee of the boat and prevent any fore-and-aft
rocking on the keel (or sliding off the trailer). You could add a bow eye
low, or pierce the keel and slip through a bolt or rope.
Assuming you can screw everything down to a wooden bed, no welding
required. And, I didn't worry about the launch height; I was still around
just a couple feet on the ramp.
To my thinking, I might be more inclined to spend a few extra bucks if the
trailer had the prospect of a second life.

Many thanks for the kind offer.
However, by the time I get to VA and buy meals. gas, lodging,
etc. . . It would be easier to modify an existing trailer to fit Micro.
I have seen a few powerboat trailers that fit the bill for around $300
(minor repairs needed). I could then get a welder to attach some
uprights to the frame to act as supports for the boat, and then attach
bunks to the uprights to keep the boat on track during retrieval. This
seems like the best option at present.
Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Rick,
Nice trailer link,but she's rated for 600
lbs.max.Unfortunately,the Micro comes in a bit heavier then that.
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, settling in for another night,at work,on the banks of
the St.Lawrence.......

Dear Dave the Eternal Optimist,
No welding required! I have the steel yoke, tongue and axle. All you
supply is the 2x6s or 8s for the bed of a wooden trailer. The parts
are yours free for the asking. I am in Virginia.

Dear Group,
A while back, I remember someone mentioning that a company in
South Florida had suitable trailers for Micro for relatively little
money. Was it Trailex? Does anyone have their address and phone
number.
Yes, I know that I can build one. I have never welded before,
don't have a supply of C channel, and would rather build the boat than
the trailer.
