1/01 Birdwatcher Update
Well, the update is that there isn't much of one. It's been unusually
cold for Maryland and so work is lagging. However, the angle grinder
has done yeoman duty removing paint on the interior so fillets can be
added, and I've started grinding the old tape and epoxy off the chines
for new stuff.
The rubrails will be replaced. A new mast will be made.
Main problem is the bottom, there's a spot about 18 inches by 18 inches
where the ply delaminated at the junction of two panels due to unsealed
end grain... (long story, I guess, but I inherited the problem with the
boat). This has been chopped out with a saw.
The fix will be to flip the boat over and re-sheathe the bottom with
6mm ply and some glass. So the bottom will be 'even thicker' than
specified. Then the "pit" in the hull will be filled in with plywood
Dutchmen and epoxy.
Since the boat's so light this won't add to the handling hassle but
does add weight down low and some more beachability quotient.
... more later.
