Re: Lake Champlain Bolger Messabout?
David,
Thanks!Sounds like my kinda place!!Now I suppose we just have to
wait and see how long it will take for this idea to percolate through
the group. It sure would be nice to get at least a dozen Bolgerites(a
few dozen would be even better,a riot!!) with their boats in the same
place.Even those whose boats are not yet ready might want to come(are
you catching this David Jost?) just for the chance to be further
inspired through the home-stretch of their building process!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, from the banks of the snowy St.Lawrence...........

Peter,
This sounds like a terrific adventure. I am usually free the
first two weeks of August. Pick a date, and we will see how the
family schedule pans out.
Hmm. . . will I bring Pointy Skiff on the roof, and Diablo on the
trailer, or perhaps will the Micro "Firefly" actually be finished by
then? Decisions, decisions. . .

"celebrating that my new winter cover has survived another 6" of
very wet snow" this is getting ridiculous!

Yes. Free launching ramp. Lots of free parking. There is free parking at
the Kingsland Bay beach, too.
There are lots of places to stay in the area, motels as well as
campgrounds, and even a marina in Town Farm Bay (inbetween Converse and
Kingsland Bays). of course, anchoring out is an option for those in
suitable craft.
It's fairly rural in the area, but you are less than a 20 minute drive to
lots of motels, restarants, fast food, gas stations, etc.
Another 15 minutes and you are in Burlington, VT, a good sized city with
lots of night life, shopping, etc.
I can;'t think of a better place for a messabout this side of sale water!

Hello David,
Ah,the voice of"local knowledge".......how nice!The area you
describe sounds great especially the launching ramp for our trailered
Bolgerites.Public = free?
I cannot wait to get a chart of this area to study it
further.Should this messabout idea actually take-off,what facilities
exist in the immediate area,ie;toilette/showers,food stores, fuel
etc...?
Thanks for the information about the busy museum schedule,it would
not have occured to me.The vision of a whole fleet of us
sailing/rowing/paddling/motoring into a tree lined cove is just about
driving me nuts with...... anticipation!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, who has already floated the idea past his girlfriend and
waits with baited breath her response,on the banks of the strangely

I think a Lake Champlain Messabout is a great idea!
The Maritime Museum has a pretty full schedule during summer weekends,
but I bet they'd be helpful. If nothing else, it would be a great side
trip, especially if we all sailed in!
The west cove of Kingsland Bay (in Ferrisburgh, VT, just south of
Charlotte) might be a good place. There is a little sandy public beach
there that is perfect for launching carryable boats (for a photo taken at
this beach , go tohttp://www.trailersailor.com/uploads/k-bay3.jpg--
please ignore the vessel constructed of a substance that shall not be
named -- the tender to that boat is an Elegant Punt, which you can see at
http://www.trailersailor.com/uploads/elegantpunt.jpg). Even if the Lake
is too messy to sail in, the Bay would probably be calm enough to potter
around. A public launching ramp is located in Converse Bay (about 2 miles
north of Kingsland Bay) for boats requiring a ramp (this bay is also good
for pottering around, when the main Lake is to rough). The Maritime
Museum is located about 3 miles south of Kingsland Bay.

I would certainly consider the timing of such a messabout in our
plans, although I might have to play the role of the heretic with the
topsail rig on LSME's foremast.
Cross your fingers for light, upstream winds so we can put it to good use!

Hi Bolgerites,
With this early talk of contemplated cruises up the Hudson and
perhaps on to Lake Champlain, how does the prospect of getting
a flock of us together somewhere on Lake Champlain this summer strike
you?
While this might sound a bit early,it would allow most of us time
to make the necessary vacation plans with our employers. Also,if there
are enough of us,then perhaps some deal could be worked out with the
Champlain Museum for partial use of their facilities for the"1st
Annual Beautiful Bolger Brotherhood Ball (Northeast division)" whereby
a wonderfully varied collection of the Masters' works are displayed.
So?Any takers out there?
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, trying to dream up happy plans for the summer while
still in the dead of winter, here on the banks of the St.Lawrence....
