Re: For Peter L. re: SURF

Hello David,
Don is absolutely right! What you are looking at is indeed the
center shoe.
By the way, those wonderful construction photos are not
mine.Unfortunately,I do not know the original posters name nor how my
sailing photos(the small grainy ones in the beginning of that folder)
ended up in his"SURF'S UP" folder.Perhaps it was our moderator doing a
bit of housework in the files section?
I would encourage you to proceed with the plans acquisition as
this is a fun sailing boat and,as a building project, scaled right so
as to not over tax either your wallet or your available time.
This was my first Bolger boat and at first I was a bit
over-confident with the construction process.After all,how difficult
can something so apparently simple be,right? It was very shortly after
the completion of my SURF,that I both found out about and understood
my new appreciation for a designers eye. That assembly of plywood
panels looked"sweet"from every angle,amazing!Simultaneously,while
marveling over those sweet lines,I also discovered that I had
inadvertently built a slight twist into her fore and aft alignment. No
one ever noticed it and I certainly never felt it effecting the boat
in a bad way but I was always very conscious about each time I went
sailing.Kinda like a zit,on the tip of your nose,at the local high
school dance......you feel like the whole world can see it and thus
you spend your whole time attempting to hide it which just keeps
drawing more and more attention to it.........no way to enjoy a
dance!!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, being teased by the aromas from the crews'"galley",here
on the banks of the St.Lawrence.....................

David,

The log follows the chine all the way to the stem. Maybe you are seeing the
center (bottom) skid and mistaking it for part of the side????

Cheers/Don
Hi -

I've been enjoying the discussion on SURF, as it will probably be my next
project.

I haven't ordered the plans yet, but in going over the information in
"Instant Boats" and the photos in the egroup archive, something has me
stumped. If you look at the photo of SURF in the first chapter of
"Instant Boats," and look at your photo of the front quarter at
http://www.egroups.com/files/bolger/Surf%27s+Up/img025.jpg
it appears that the external chine log does not go all the way to the
chine line as it approaches the bow. The plans do not seem to reflect
this.

What am I missing?

David
